Aegros Haemafrac® leverages the principles of electrophoresis – specifically ion mobility in an electric field – combined with pH modulation and specialty membrane-based separation – to efficiently purify plasma proteins at therapeutic scale. By using buffers to regulate protein charge, and employing selective migration techniques, the result is a high-yield, high-purity plasma fractionation platform. This innovation marks a significant advancement versus old industrial processes, such as Cohn, making it a powerful tool for the high-yield production of high-purity plasma medicines.
Aegros’ process connects to the front and back end of the Cohn process replacing the multiple capture steps with a single capture step. This increases overall process yield, dramatically reducing process time, steps and operating costs. The simplicity of this process requires much lower capital investment – making commercial plasma fractionation economically viable at volumes as low as 50,000 liters per year.
